Where is PIN located?
PIN does not have a location. We are not a shelter where pets can be dropped off or adopted from. PIN is a community, a movement, operating through social media platforms where like minded animal lovers connect to help rescue, foster and re-home pets. Pets are kept at various places, be it Vet clinics, or at individual's homes and privately run shelters. This makes it challenging to monitor what happens to each pet, but by screening new members who join PIN, we can try to ensure that the vision of helping animals is maintained.
I want to foster / adopt a pet. What do I do?
Due to the large amount of pets needing homes, we don't post pictures on here, but rather have members post it on the Facebook group. If you wish to foster or adopt, please request to join the group directly by clicking on the "Facebook group" tab above.
I need to re-home my pet. What do I do?
Take a clear picture of your pet. Post the picture along with information (age, sex, and any other additional information you see fit) and post this on PIN's group on Facebook. Please ensure that your pet is neutered before it goes to a new home. You can be assured at least that the new owners do not want to adopt for breeding purposes. There, interested members will be able to contact you directly. We can't stress it enough, but please ensure you ask the right questions to the potential owners. We have a list of questions that can be used as a guide
I'm leaving on vacation. Who can look after my pet?
Please plan in advance. Informing people last minute before travelling will make it very difficult to find someone to look after your pet. Having a trusted friend or relative care for your pet at your home would be the most ideal, since the pet is used to his/her surrounding and this causes less stress. However, if you are seeking a boarding service, please post this on the group, or contact Kitty tender love and Care or check with various vet clinics boarding services. We personally do not recommend boarding at vet clinics. Be prepared that the majority of Vet clinics do not take the pets out of their cages/kennels and will have their own feeding / cleaning times. Do as much research as possible before placing your pet in someone else's care.
Where can I get my pet neutered?
All Veterinarian clinics perform this surgery however different clinics charge different prices. (prices range between 300 SAR-950 SAR) Getting male pets neutered is cheaper than getting female pets spayed. If you have a large number of pets to get neutered/spayed, or have a specific budget, you can contact various charitable groups who perform this surgery at a much cheaper rate. Ask your local vet if they offer a discount for rescued pets.
What breeds of animals can I find through PIN?
You will find the sweet breed, the kind breed, the funny breed and the naughty breed! We are not focused on 'breeds'-that's like asking a person about their race. We believe all animals, whatever breed they are, mixed or otherwise, deserve a chance. We do not deal with breeders nor with those focused on specific breed.
I'm leaving the country for good. What is the procedure to take my pet with me?
First make sure your pet is micro-chipped and that all vaccinations are up to date. (some countries will require you to have the rabies vaccine done no more than 6 months ago)
-Research online the requirements of the country you are importing your pet to. (some will require a blood test which can take up to 3 months to do)
-Get in contact with a vet in the country of destination (so they will send you the required IMPORT papers via courier mail or hand it to someone based locally in that country who will need to present it at the airport upon your arrival).
-Check with your chosen airline what their policies are. Some state that you can have your pet in a carrier with you on board (as long as the carrier meets their standards and your pet is no more than 5 kgs ) others will not accept any on board with you and will send them with luggage. From people's past experiences, Lufthansa is one of the most pet friendly airlines you can use.
-Go to your local vet who will issue a HEALTH CERTIFICATE for your pet (you only need to present your pet's vaccine booklet for them to do this) Different vet clinics will charge different prices for this-Happy Pet clinic for example, will do this for 150 sr
-You need to now go to the Ministry of Agriculture to get the EXPORT permit. You are required to present the health certificate, vaccine booklet AND according to the new regulations, bring your pet with you for them to see. (its just a formality really-they don't physically check your pet). Your iqama or ID needs to be shown.
-This EXPORT permit is typed up at the MOA reception, where you'll need to get it stamped at their vet, then signed by the Manager there. Best time to go is early in the morning. Note: the MOA location is far (old Makkah road past industrial area)
Most vet clinics can take care of all this for you at an extra charge. Happy pet charges 1800sr. However if you go do it yourself, all these documents that you need are obtained for free.
-24 hours before your flight, you are required to go to the customs department at the Airport to get a final approval/exit for your pet. Bringing your pet along is not required. They will take the export paper you got from the MOA, and in return give you a final veterinarian certificate.
On the day of departure, arrive early incase of delays or additional formalities. You will be charged excess luggage for your pet. (Saudia Airlines for example will charge you a fixed 488 SR to take your cat /onboard with you). The airline should be informed that your flying with a pet WHEN YOU BOOK YOUR TICKET. Since only a certain amount of pets can be onboard one flight (most say two) if you haven't informed them in advance, they might not accept your pet on that flight.
This whole process can seem overwhelming and tiring, however planning ahead is key here. To make things more cost effective, you need to run around yourself and do this and hope you get helpful people who process everything smoothly, otherwise you can pay the vet to take care of most of this for you, or pay an agency instead. (agencies come in handy if your time is limited, or you have to leave before your pet can)
I just found a pet on the street. What do I do?
Please do not just leave it there and hope someone else will find it. Even if you post about it, by the time someone comes to the scene, chances are, the pet would have moved on. The first thing we suggest is to help the animal to a safe place. Can you keep it with you till you can find someone else to help? perhaps a neighbor, friend or relative? Once the pet is safe from harm, ensure it has fresh water and something to eat. Please do not feed the animal chicken bones. Whilst you are searching for a potential new home, you can take the pet to a vet clinic for a quick check up and if you can please have him/her neutered or spayed. People sometimes don't want to help an abandoned pet on the street because they don't want to assume any responsibility, however if you really want to help that pet, please rescue it, neuter it (if possible) and spread the word to find it a forever home.
Which Dr's or Veterinarian Clinics do you recommend?
There are many Vet clinics based locally, however PIN does not endorse nor recommend any specifically. Different clinics have different advantages and offer different services and their prices are not all the same. We suggest you ask around, do a little research and pose the question to other PIN members on our PIN CARE group where everyone can give you their own tips and state their own experiences.
Why shouldn't I buy a pet from a pet store?
There are so many unwanted pets right now, it simply does not make any sense to buy a pet from a pet store. Apart from that, do you want to really support the horrible conditions the animals are kept in? pet stores do not have the animal's best interest at heart. they are only focused on the business, money- making side of it.
Do you recommend de-clawing my cat?
No. It's inhumane and it's done purely for cosmetic reasons or for the 'benefit' of humans. Be wary of any vet clinics offering this procedure. Please watch this Youtube video to understand what de-clawing really entails. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_7oTlocGSw
Can I sell my pet via PIN?
No. PIN is based on adoption only. Do not use the group to sell your pet as anyone found selling their pets to others either directly or via private message to other PIN members, will be removed and banned from the group.
Can I donate?
We do not accept any monetary donations. Do not give money to any PIN members asking for money as we can't track where or what that is funding. The only sure-way we support this is if it's paid directly to the vet in question towards the bill for the treatment of the animal in need. If on the other hand you wish to donate actual pet food, blankets, medicine and supplies, kindly email us at [email protected] as there are many animals who could benefit from additional food, toys, blankets and basic deworming and anti flea treatments.
